One of Sportive Tricks longest serving powerlifters, Mat Wetton, competed on 25th November 2023 in Manchester. He lifted deadlift only at the A/BPU Manchester qualifier at SILA in Salford. His aim for the day was qualification for Single Lifts British Championships 2024 which will also be held in Manchester
Inspirational powerlifter and current British Champion and World Champion Helen Redhead competed and won 3 gold medals at the recent WPC World Powerlifting Championships in Manchester. Some 600 competitors and 20 countries took part. Having struggled with severe eating disorders for over 30 years, Helen has been able to turn her life around, battling back from a body weight of just five stone to achieve her dream of representing her country and winning on the international stage.
Sportive Tricks saw one of their powerlifters, Alex Spiller, compete at the A/BPU qualifier at Performance Fitness Gym in Eastbourne on 21st October 2023. Jason and Helen were there to handle him throughout the day and to help out with running the warm up areas.
July 2023 saw Jason Swalwell and Helen Redhead compete at the A/BPU British Championships in Manchester. Almost 600 lifters from all over the UK descended on the city for 7 days of powerlifting, hoping to place in the top 3 in their class in order to be invited to compete as part of Team GB later in the year.
Over the weekend of 13th and 14th May 2023 A/BPU held their Single Lifts British Championships in the Manchester Central exhibition centre. This year the competition took place inside the FITEXPO which is a big event where representatives from many different sports come together to demonstrate their skills.
